Your Year-End Coverage Checklist
Life changes all year long, but most people only think about insurance when a bill or a claim arrives. The weeks before January 1 are a good time to catch up.
For families
New or replaced vehicles: make sure every car is listed and the right drivers are assigned.
New drivers at home: a new teen driver, or a college student home for the holidays, needs to be on the policy.
Home improvements: a new kitchen, finished basement or new roof can raise what it would cost to rebuild. Your coverage should keep up.
Holiday gifts: jewelry, watches, art and collectibles often have low limits on a standard policy. Valuable items can be scheduled for full coverage.
Umbrella coverage: if your savings and home value have grown, your liability limits should grow too.
Flood: most flood policies have a 30-day waiting period. Do not wait for spring storms to buy one.
For business owners
New hires and payroll changes: workers' compensation is based on payroll. Keeping it accurate avoids a surprise bill at your year-end audit.
New equipment or vehicles: add them before they are used on a job.
New contracts for 2027: if a client requires higher limits or additional insured wording, tell us before the contract starts.
Certificates of insurance: collect current certificates from subcontractors and vendors for the new year.
Cyber basics: multi-factor sign-in on email, working backups, and staff reminders about holiday phishing scams.
